The sales and service industries are the targeted focus of a new provincial government skills training program that will provide $150,000 to the Native Friendship Centre.
The money will be used to pay for pre-employment training, job-placement services and other support services to help job candidates from the Aboriginal labour force directly connect to employers.
The Aboriginal Training for Employment Program has identified 11 service providers to distribute $4 million to create work-enhancement programs around the province as part of the Canada-British Columbia Labour Market Agreement.
"We want to make sure young Aboriginal people are prepared to fill many of the million jobs we know will be opening up in British Columbia over the next decade, and this program is providing opportunities that connect Aboriginal individuals with growing occupations," said Naomi Yamamoto, Minister of Advanced Education.
