Prince George will be among the stops when the provincial government holds a series of forums to discuss the wording, delivery and legacy efforts for a formal apology to B.C.'s Chinese community for historical wrongs.

The forum in Prince George will be held Wed., Jan. 22, with an exact time and venue to be posted at www.embracebc.ca over the coming weeks.

Forums will also be held in Kamloops in December and in Vancouver, Kelowna, Richmond, Burnaby and Coquitlam in January.

The input received at the forums and from online submissions will guide the wording, delivery and legacy efforts of a formal apology, to be introduced during the next sitting of the legislature.

In particular, the apology will relate to legislated inequality and discrimination between 1885 and 1923 when multiple forms of discriminatory legislation were imposed, including the Chinese Immigration Act, and again in 1923 to 1947 when Chinese individuals were restricted from entering Canada under the Chinese Exclusion Act.
