The most most prestigious award in School District No. 57 - the Prince of Wales Scholarship - goes to a McBride student.
McBride secondary school graduate, Amy von der Gonna, received the $2,500 award during graduation ceremonies June 26 in the town located 206 km east of Prince George.
The scholarship, awarded annually to those excelling in academics, citizenship and the arts, dates back to 1986 when it was established to mark visit of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, the Prince and Princess of Wales to Prince George during Vancouver Expo '86.
Myrna Lemky, with the school district awards program, said,"Amy is a most deserving recipient of this award. She is very active in her school with basketball and volleyball. She is a member of her
school Student Council and Yearbook Club, has assisted in recycling programs at school and tutoring other students in mathematics. Read more in The Citizen.
