It's once again no surprise to see community members helping other community members in Prince George.
The latest example? The Pine Centre Mall.
The mall decided this summer they wanted to make a difference at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia (UHNBC).
Mall spokesperson Jessica Brown says they contacted the unit to ensure they could give them what they needed.
"We then reached out to them and worked with their team to find the chairs and ensure they are exactly what they felt a parent in the NICU would need, specifically breastfeeding mothers," she tells PrinceGeorgeMatters.
She says each year, the mall sets aside a specific amount of money which they donate directly back into the Prince George community (over and above the non-profits they also support throughout the year in many capacities).
"We know having a child in the NICU can be stressful and we thought even just offering chairs at the proper height (so not to strain when trying to sit down) with good quality leather and ergonomic design could brighten someone’s day," Brown says. "We were sure to work with the staff in the NICU to ensure the chairs had every detail that would make them more comfortable than a regular lounger."
She adds the decision was easy, wanting to help those going through one of the most trying times of their lives.
"Those brave parents deserve all of the support they can get and we feel so blessed that the NICU allowed us to provide a little bit of comfort and support to them in, what can be trying times," she says. "We are so thankful for the supportive amazing community that is Prince George and we look forward to how we can make a positive impact in some’s life each and every day."
