Prince George’s Exploration Place cancels Rotten Pumpkin Fundraiser due to weather

Unfortunately, if you were hoping to catapult your Halloween pumpkins in the name of charity, you’ll have to do that on your own time.

The Exploration Place in Prince George has decided to cancel its Rotten Pumpkin Fundraiser tomorrow (Nov. 1) as the weather is calling for unless-than-ideal conditions for their annual event.

As of 9:30 a.m. today (Oct. 31), Environment Canada is calling for a 30 per chance of showers and winds for Friday afternoon, making the temperature feel like -10 C with wind chill.

The pumpkins were supposed to fly between 2:30 and 5:30 p.m.

“We simply cannot operate the 20-foot catapult under those conditions,” said Exploration Place CEO Tracy Calogheros in a statement. “We will take another run at it in 2020! We are really sorry, but we can’t control the weather.”

At $3 per pumpkin, all the funds would’ve gone back to the not-for-profit museum to help boost future programs.

If you’re not sure what to do with your unwanted pumpkins after tonight, you can either compost them, place them in your yard waste bin for pick-up, give it to farming friends so they can feed their animals or even, if you’re inclined, eat them yourself.
