The first annual Prince George Spring Cleanup happened in 1918.

It’s about that time of the year again. Spring is officially here and the City of Prince George has scheduled its annual Spring Clean Up event.

Prince George residents are invited to pitch in with their friends and neighbours to give the city a post-winter tidying during the annual Spring Clean Up.

This annual event has been happening in Prince George for over 100 years.

According to city records, the first civic clean up event was held on April 25,1918. The event came about through a motion brought forward by the chair of the Board of Health, a civic committee during the city’s earliest days. The City of Prince George was incorporated as a municipality just three years earlier.

Those interested in participating in the 2023 spring clean up can register to clean their neighbourhood, schoolyard, community park, or business area and the city will provide teams with free gloves and garbage bags.

The event takes place on Sunday April 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Gear pick up will be at April 24-28, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. at the City Hall Service Centre. Limited Sharps containers will be available.

Garden and yard waste can be taken – free of charge – to the Foothills Landfill site or the Quinn Street and Vanway Transfer & Recycle Stations.

Those interested must register online in order to participate and an event map for bin locations and volunteer clean up routes is also available online.
