The Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society (PGHPCS) is bringing back its original event for the fourth annual Colour Walk to ‘Celebrate Life in Colour’.
Organizers will be bringing back the original in-person colour walk event that started it all back in 2019.
On Sunday May 29, everyone is invited to participate at the CN Centre parking lot from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Participants will be walking a designated route in the parking lot while the colour sponsor teams will be tossing powder as participants walk by.
However, Hospice is still challenging participants to walk “a hundred k in the Month of May” virtually from their favourite walking destination and to share their daily walks on social media.
There will also be family-themed games like I Spy and scavenger hunts to motivate the community to walk and raise pledges for the PGHPCS.
The colour thrown during the in-person event in May is a symbol to remember the lives of loved ones who have passed and to celebrate the success of the kilometres walked for the month of May.
Everyone is invited to join by walking, raising pledges, posting on social media or supporting someone else that is walking.
Participants can join in as a family, individual or team and the 100 km goal may be shared and split up amongst members.
Organizers say the goal is simply to get out and have fun while raising funds for the programs and services provided by the Prince George hospice society.
The money raised from this event will be directed to the PGHPCS’s outdoor rec room. The Rec Room is where people can gather to be supported in their grief. It is different from traditional grief counselling as the people who attend will build things together or learn new skills such as woodworking or watching the game together.
Registration for the 2022 Colour Walk is free, but there are Colour Walk packages available for purchase to those who wish to share their support, and more information can be found on the PGHPCS website.
