The City of Prince George will host the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) March 2013 board of directors meeting.
"We are excited to welcome delegates from across Canada to our city in a few years," said Mayor Dan Rogers. "By hosting this national event, we will achieve many of council's core focus areas that include strengthening and diversifying our economy, increasing civic pride, and strengthening intergovernmental relations."
"Prince George has a proud history with the FCM; the last time the board of directors met here was while former Prince George councillor Cliff Dezell sat on FCM's board. He distinguished himself by being one of the handful of councillors across the country named to FCM's roll of honour," said councillor Garth Frizzell, FCM board member and BC Caucus chair. "I am delighted that administration was able to deliver such a compelling proposal on short notice. It is exciting to think that some of the most influential elected officials in Canada will be meeting here in only two year!"
The proposed dates for the meeting are March 6 to 9, 2013. It is expected that the city will play host to approximately 80 to 100 delegates with an additional 60 to 80 guests in attendance. The hosting of the FCM board of directors meeting will have an estimated economic impact of approximately
$450,000 to the local economy.
