The new goaltender for the Prince George Spruce Kings had a good first night despite coming out on the losing end of it.

The Wenatchee Wild sent 33 shots in Carter Woodside’s direction last night (Nov. 25), who was officially acquired by Prince George over the weekend, but the 18-year-old let a pair get past him in the 2-1 setback.

He was pulled in the final 40 seconds of play as the ‘Kings were attempting to tie up the contest and force overtime, but the Wild stood strong.

Defenceman Evan Orr was the lone goal-scorer for the visitors in their fourth of a five-game road trip, coming at 5:24 of the third period and assists from Jaxon Steele and Nick Bochen.

A pair of donuts were on the scoreboard after the opening frame after Woodside turned away all 11 shots from Wenatchee.

However, the stalemate would get broken nearly seven minutes into the second stanza when the Wild capitalized on a high-sticking penalty taken by Spruce Kings Captain Nolan Welsh.

The home side extended their lead to 2-0 two minutes into the third period only to be broken in half three minutes later by Orr’s fourth marker of the season.

The score would remain 2-1 at the final buzzer despite Prince George’s efforts to come back, dropping their record to 10-15-2-3.

The Spruce Kings wrap up the extended stint away from home on Wednesday (Nov. 27) in Penticton against the Interior Division-leading Vees.
