Both clubs reached the 40-shot mark, but the Prince George Spruce Kings came up on the losing side of Wednesday’s (Nov. 20) tilt in Nanaimo.

Jett Alexander faced 44 from the Clippers, the most he’s seen in a game this season.

The first-year B.C. Hockey League (BCHL) goaltender, however, would also see two pucks get by him, resulting in a 2-1 setback for his Spruce Kings squad.

Alexander still maintains an above-900 save-percentage, 12th best in the league, and 2.67 goals-against average, good enough for ninth among BCHL netminders.

The loss drops Prince George’s record to 10-13-2-3 and is now 1-1 on their five-game road-trip.

Corey Cunningham got on the board first to give the ‘Kings a 1-0 lead.

The 18-year-old’s ninth of the year deflected a shot from defenceman Cole Leal, who put the puck towards the Clippers’ cage, fooling Jordan Naylor at 5:25 into the game.

The score stood that way until the early stages of the middle frame when Nanaimo found a route past Alexander for a 1-1 tie.

Despite several chances to regain the one-goal lead with 16 shots, the Clippers only needed one-less shot to get the 2-1 game-winning marker with seven minutes left in regulation.

Prince George now departs Vancouver Island for three games across the Interior Division of the BCHL.

They’ll start in Merritt on Friday (Nov. 22) against the Centennials starting at 7 p.m.

The Spruce Kings will then face-off in Wenatchee on Monday (Nov. 25) and Penticton Wednesday (Nov. 27).
