Each year, the Prince George Road Runners host a series of races testing athletes’ short- and long-distance endurance on local terrain.
For 2020, however, those races have officially been cancelled as of today (June 8) in a decision made by the organization’s executive board.
A social media post says COVID-19 continues to be an unpredictable situation and the health and safety of Prince George’s running community is taken very seriously.
The Road Runners explain BC Athletics, the provincial governing body for the local organization, won’t be issuing refunds to those who’ve registered for insurance.
The group says this means members are still insured for any accidents that could happen while training and, should group-runs make a return this summer, that insurance will still be valid.
However, race entry fees and some of a single full membership fee will be refunded, but if you registered on a half-membership, you won’t be getting any money back.
“We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold these events for our beloved running community,” a Prince George Road Runners statement reads after ‘careful consideration.’
“But we know it’s the right decision based on the information we have today.”
