The Prince George office of R.F. Binnie and Associates Ltd. has taken the top award for design and contract preparation - roads at the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure's deputy minister's consulting engineers awards.
The achievement was made for "exceptional work" in designing safety improvements for the Sande-Keith T-intersection along Highway 16 in Terrace.
The company "presented several different concepts and then completed detailed design ahead of schedule, allowing construction to start before the fall weather set in," the ministry said in a press release issued Thursday.
"In addition to grading, drainage, municipal utilities, paving, and electrical elements, their design work included simulations of vehicle and pedestrian traffic for the two design concepts.
"These simulations showed existing conditions as well as future traffic increases, and were instrumental in facilitating both stakeholder input and the decision making process."
The firm was awarded a $300,000 contract to do the work.
