Mounties in Prince George are stepping up for local seniors this holiday season.
This Sunday (Dec. 8), officers will be at all four Save-On-Foods locations in Prince George to collect non-perishable foods to 'Pack-A-PC' (police car).
The four locations are in College Heights (Domano Boulevard), Hart Highway (West Austin Road), Parkwood Mall (15th Avenue) and Spruceland Mall (Central Street).
The event runs for six hours with officers as well as detachment staff at each store including some of the 100 volunteers.
"We are asking the generous people of our communities to purchase an extra item or two while shopping and help load the police vehicle on the way out of the store," Cpl. Craig Douglass said in a news release.
Donated item suggestions include:
- Canned vegetables, beans or lentils
- Canned fruits packed in water, 100 per cent unsweetened fruit juice or fruit sauce
- Canned fish, chicken, ham or corned beef
- Carton of shelf-stable (UHT) milk or non-dairy milk or real fruit juice (unsweetened)
- Canned soups or stews (low in sodium preferred)
- Facial tissue, toilet tissue, paper towel (individually wrapped packages appreciated)
- Instant oatmeal (individual packets)
- Rice (plain) or pastas
- Stuffing mix, turkey gravy mix or canned cranberry sauce
- Pudding mixes
- Peanut butter
- Crackers - whole or multigrain

Police also ask donators to consider low sugar, no sugar and low salt items.
Cash and grocery store gift cards will also be accepted for donation to the Council of Seniors.
Perishable items will be purchased just before the food is delivered later this month.
