Prince George RCMP arrested a person familiar to police after one of their vehicles was rammed with an allegedly stolen truck.

RCMP said the incident occurred on Friday night when police were called to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked near the 10500-block of Hartman Road.

The driver backed a truck into the vehicle of the officer who arrived on the scene, RCMP said, ramming it twice before ending up in the ditch beside the road.

The driver then fled on foot. With the help of a dog and handler and the North District RCMP emergency response team, a suspect was eventually apprehended.

RCMP described the alleged culprit as a "well-known violent offender" and said the truck had been stolen from the Prince George area in December 2022. A loaded gun was also found inside the vehicle, RCMP said.

The suspect's name was not released and charges remained pending.

The officer whose vehicle was rammed was not injured, police said.
