Prince George RCMP is currently investigating an incident that occurred in the Hart on Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 2:45 p.m., police officers were initially advised there was a man near Gray Road and Kelly Road South who appeared to have a weapon and was near residences. One witness reported to the Citizen the man was threatening people with a machete.

When investigators approached the man, he ran away into the nearby woods.

“Out of an abundance of caution, Shas Ti Kelly Road Secondary School was put on a hold and secure as police officers were aware school would be letting out soon. This was done to minimize foot traffic and enhance public and police safety,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

With the assistance of a Police Dog Services unit, the suspect was located and arrested within 30 minutes of police receiving the initial 9-1-1 call.

He is currently being held in custody while investigators collect further evidence and speak with witnesses. Police are asking anyone in the area who has video surveillance or dash camera footage that shows the movements of the suspect in this investigation to contact a police officer by calling the Prince George RCMP non-emergency line at 250-561-3300 and to quote file number 2023-43472.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian man, approximately 50 years old, wearing jeans and a black jacket.
