Police in Prince George have arrested 22-year-old dangerous driver whose journey panned across two cities.

Shortly after 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26, Vanderhoof RCMP notified police in Prince George of a dangerous driver who was last seen heading east out of the Vanderhoof area at a high speed.

Officers learned the driver was traveling at excessive speeds and collided with another vehicle without stopping while driving through Vanderhoof.

Members from several units in Prince George, including Frontline, Municipal Traffic and Police Dog Services, set up roadblocks in the Beaverly area to stop the driver.

“The driver attempted to evade police roadblocks multiple times, even after successful deployment of a spike belt. The vehicle was located not far from where the spike belt was used and, with the assistance of a Police Service Dog, the driver was located and arrested,” states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

Police identified the driver as Prince George resident Cameron Boyes, who is known to police. He was held in custody until he could attend court.

The B.C. Prosecution Service has approved the following charges against Mr. Boyes:

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Obstruct a police officer
  • Resist arrest
  • Possession of a weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of ammunition
  • Possession of ammunition contrary to order

Police are asking that witnesses to the driving behaviour of Boyes contact their local RCMP detachment to speak with police. The vehicle is described as a grey Honda sedan with the rear bumper hanging off and extensive damage to the exterior of the car.
