Another Prince George hotel will avoid striking.
UNITE HERE Local 40 announced this afternoon (Feb. 8) that a protracted labour dispute has ended after employees threatened lockout action with Ramada Prince George employees receiving a new contract.
The new deal will see workers receive a wage increase of $3 per hour by June 2020, with some job classifications receiving even higher wage increases.
“I am proud to be a member of UNITE HERE! Local 40. By being part of a union and supporting each other in workplaces across the city, hospitality workers have been able to win significant improvements to our standard of living,” Stacey Moen, a cook at the Ramada says in a news release.
This is the second deal UNITE HERE Local 40 has secured recently.
Coast Inn of the North workers also received wage increases after they issued a strike notice back in December.
Other unions and demonstrators also withdrew business from hotels during labour disputes.
“We want to acknowledge the tremendous support from Prince George unions during our two-year long fight,” Harley Augustino, Union Representative for Prince George, adds in the release. “Solidarity is our strength and we look forward to continuing to improve the lives of Prince George working families for years to come.”
Ramada workers were protesting outside the hotel in late January, threatening a strike vote on Feb. 6.
