A Prince George man was struck by a vehicle while using a crosswalk on 15th Avenue and Jarvis Street.

The Prince George RCMP says shortly before 6 p.m. on Feb. 9 police responded to a pedestrian-involved motor vehicle incident at that intersection where witnesses stated the pedestrian was in the crosswalk when a passing vehicle struck him.

The man was transported to hospital where he remains in stable condition and the driver of the vehicle is cooperating with the investigation.

“Police are reminding drivers that it is still winter driving conditions, and that means it is still dark out early in the evening and later into the mornings. Drivers need to be maintaining their vigilance when approaching crosswalks and intersections,” said Prince George RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

“At the same time, we are encouraging pedestrians to carry reflective gear or a flashlight with them when you are walking during the darker winter hours.”

Traffic was delayed for several hours while frontline police and a traffic analyst collected information and spoke with witnesses.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and are asking anyone with information about the incident or any other criminal offence to contact the Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
