Prince George Nominated as 2011 Ultimate Fishing Town

Prince George has been nominated as the best place to fish in Canada as part of the 2011 WFN Ultimate Fishing Town contest.

Prince George has been nominated as the best place to fish in Canada as part of the 2011 WFN Ultimate Fishing Town contest. WFN: World Fishing Network, North America's only 24-hour fishing lifestyle network, is conducting the search through a nationwide contest and awarding a $25,000 prize and more to the winning community. Residents can support the nomination and help reel in a win by adding photos, videos and essays about Prince George at www.wfnfishingtown.com.

The competition is open to nearly every community in Canada except Port Alberni, which, despite a population of just 18,000 residents, was named the 2010 WFN Ultimate Fishing Town. In addition to national recognition of being named the 2011 WFN Ultimate Fishing Town and a $25,000 donation to be used towards fishing-related cause(s), the town will also receive a tourism boost when it is featured on WFN.

Following the nomination period from March 1 to April 8, the first round of public voting will be open from April 12 - May 3, 2011. The 18 finalists, comprised of the three entries with the highest vote totals from each of the four regions plus six "wild card" entrants selected by WFN, will advance to the final round of voting from May 10 to 31, 2011. he results will be announced in June at a ceremony in the winning community emceed by Mariko Izumi, Canada's fishing sweetheart and host of WFN's Hookin' Up with Mariko Izumi.

In 2010, WFN asked Canadians to name the best place to wet a line and Canadians representing 160 different communities nationwide stepped up to tell WFN why their town is Canada's best place to fish. After more than 850,000 votes were cast Port Alberni earned the $25,000 first prize and a 30-minute show on WFN about their fishing community.
