Prince George MPs officially sworn in for Canada’s 43rd Parliament

Todd Doherty signs into second term, Bob Zimmer a third term

Three weeks following Canada’s 2019 decision day, the two elected Prince George members of parliament made their wins official.

Both Todd Doherty and Bob Zimmer signed into the West Block of the House of Commons in Ottawa this week, swearing in as Federal Conservatives and representatives of their respective ridings once again.

For Doherty, this will be his second term as the MP for Cariboo-Prince George after earning close to 53 per cent of the vote on Monday, Oct. 21.

The 50-year-old was surrounded by family and friends as he put pen to paper, along with Conservative Party of Canada leader Andrew Scheer.

“It’s humbling, but we know we have more to do,” said Doherty to Prince George media following his victory.

“We have a serious epidemic in terms of our first responders that continue to choose death over life. I look forward to working on it whether that’s boosting our framework or something else.”

Bob Zimmer won his third term as MP for Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies by a landslide.

He accumulated almost 70 per cent of the votes in his riding on Election Day to retain his seat in the House.

“It's not an automatic that the Liberals aren't going to listen to us,” he said to PrinceGeorgeMatters that night.

“I think they have taken a position of support for Kinder Morgan and also support for the forestry industry, so we're going to be pushing them on that and we would be supporting that obviously to make sure that happens.”

Zimmer was joined by his wife for the signing in Ottawa today (Nov. 14).

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will convene Canada’s 43rd Parliament for the first time on Thursday, Dec. 5 when is set to deliver his throne speech to his minority government and the collective House.
