A Prince George-region politician is joining Canada's Standing Committee on Natural Resources.
Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies MP Bob Zimmer was appointed to the federal government's committee today (Oct. 7) by Opposition Leader Erin O'Toole, which examines issues related to the nation's four industrial sectors that constitute the mandate of the Department of Natural Resources.
Those sectors include:
- Energy
- Forestry
- Minerals and metals
- Earth sciences
In a statement, Zimmer explains the committee considers bills referred to it by the House of Commons, and focuses on expenditures and activities of the organizations that are part of the Natural Resources portfolio.
“The natural resource sector is the backbone to our national economy," the federal Conservative adds.
"As we all know, it can and should play an important role in Canada’s economic recovery as we navigate the pandemic. I look forward to continuing to work with our local stakeholders and to provide a voice for Northern B.C.’s natural resource community on this committee.”
Zimmer is also co-chair of the Parliamentary Outdoor Caucus.
In his previous term, he served as chair of the Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics.
