Kyle Wilson's hockey gear was stolen from his truck at 2:54 p.m. on Monday afternoon (Dec. 10).
When the items were stolen, Wilson filed a police report and called local pawn shops, but wasn't hopeful they would be returned.
"Right around Christmas time, I (didn't) want to have to buy new gear. I'd rather be out playing," he tells PrinceGeorgeMatters.
Now, thanks to the powers of Facebook, Wilson has it back. Posts he shared went viral throughout Prince George sites, with strangers passing the information along to their friends.
"So believe it or not, social media got my gear back. He kept my bag and jersey, but he tried to offload the gear at a pawn shop. (Someone) saw the posts and knew right away it was stolen and got in touch with me to get it back."
Wilson has been playing hockey since he was four years old, and played competitively growing up. The now-24-year-old says playing with the SG Remax Kings in Rec B is more about the social aspect than anything.
"Our team is all guys I played with growing up. We drifted apart but put the team together, and now we get to spend time together again. It keeps us together."
