Prince George RCMP were called to an assault in progress happening outside a business in the 600 block of Central Street West shortly before 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
Witnesses reported seeing a man knock a woman to the ground and strike her in the face, according to a statement issued by police on Friday. The victim suffered from scrapes to her arms and legs, and was in pain from where she was stuck. The woman was treated on the scene by paramedics.
Witnesses provided police with a description of the suspect and the truck he drove away in, as well as the licence plate of the vehicle. Police officers located the 32-year-old man at his home and arrested him for assault.
“Without a doubt this incident would have continued if it were not for the actions of multiple people who intervened by shouting at the suspect to stop,” Prince George RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Cooper said. “Additionally, investigators were able to locate the suspect within 30 minutes of the assault from the accurate information provided to them from witnesses at the scene. We thank all those who stayed behind to speak with police.”
The case remains under investigation and anyone with information about the assault is asked to call Prince George RMCP at 250-561-3300. Tips can also be made anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477), or online www.northernbccrimestoppers.ca (English only).
