Brink Forest Products Ltd. has been slapped with a significant fine by WorkSafeBC after a report indicated an issue at its manufacturing facility in Prince George.

According to the website’s report, inspectors imposed a fine of $37,639.56 on Oct. 4 this year after finding inadequate safeguards on three of its machines.

The report states two pieces of equipment had circumvented safeguards, while a third didn’t have an adequate safeguard to better protect workers.

It concludes Brink “failed to ensure its machinery was fitted with adequate safeguards to ensure workers could not access hazardous points of operation.”

WorkSafeBC adds this is also a repeated violation.

The mediator’s website shows this is the fifth time in five years a fine has been issued to Brink Forest Products Ltd., with this being the fourth-highest amount.
