The BC Human Resources Management Association (BC HRMA) has announced the finalists for the 2011 Rising Star Award - including one HR professional from Prince George.

Kara Biles, an e-learning specialist with the Learning Centre of the BC Public Service Agency, was announced as a finalist for the prestigious industry recognition.

Biles's nomination was based on her demonstrated leadership and training skills, according to BC HRMA news release.

"Biles is a dedicated HR professional at the BC Public Service, helping support a 30,000 member workforce delivering services to more than four million British Columbians," it states.

"She has become a recognized expert in training and development not only for her own agency but also for other ministries in the BC Public Service. She is the go-to person for e-learning, where her entire job is defined as innovation in training."

She is one of only a few people in the BC Public Service to design and develop training courses and systems using technology.

Biles is a finalist alongside two other talented nominees: Carly Gordon, human resources advisor at NRI Distribution Inc., and Sarah Siddall, human resources recruiter for the Resort Municipality of Whistler.

The Rising Star Award, sponsored by Knightsbridge, The Province and The Vancouver Sun, recognizes the HR leaders of tomorrow.

"These up-and-comers, within the first five years of their career, are considered to be lighting the HR community on fire and hold the future of the profession in their hands," states the news release. "Each of the nominees has made significant contributions to their past and present workplaces at a very early stage in their career".

The recipients of the Rising Star Award, as well as other professional awards, will be announced at the Awards Luncheon on April 15, held in conjunction with BC HRMA's 49th Annual Conference & Marketplace in Vancouver.

BC HRMA is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing professional people practices, providing leadership to more than 5,000 members. The association is the exclusive grantor of the Certified Human Resources Professional designation in British Columbia.
