Prince George fire department calls up 21% over 2022

The Prince George Fire Rescue Service has responded to 21 per cent more calls between Jan. 1 and May 31 than over the same period in 2022.

Prince George firefighters responded to 21 per cent more calls by the end of May than over the first five months of 2022, according to a report to Regional District of Fraser-Fort George board of directors this month.

The Prince George Fire Rescue Service had responded to 4,510 calls (2,831 medical, 1,188 fires, 262 rescues and 229 administrative) by May 31, including 951 calls in May. During the same five-month period in 2022, the department had responded to 3,730 calls (2,305 medical, 981 fires, 213 rescues and 231 administrative calls).

Prince George fire crews responded to a record 9,880 calls in 2022, up from 8,087 in 2021. During the five-year period from 2015 to 2019, the department responded to an average 6,200 calls per year, ranging from 6,881 in 2017 to 5,888 in 2015.
