Reason community would recognize your name:
Over the past 13 years as trustee on the Board of Education, I have had the privilege of serving all communities within School District 57. During my 30 year career in my role as both an elementary and secondary teacher and 46 years as a parent and community member I have actively participated on community committees, organizations and projects. Over my 46 years in Prince George I have had the privilege of working with and being part of the lives of many fine people from all walks of life, interests and circumstance.
What is the most important issue facing the school district, and how do you propose to deal with it?
There are many important issues but the most important is the responsibility of the board of education to ensure equity of opportunity for all students, access to the highest quality of education programs and services and the right of each student to a safe, caring, healthy learning environment. As a member of the board the decisions I would be called upon to make would place these responsibilities front and centre.
What is your specific reason for running?
I am committed to the work of the board. During my 13 years on the board I have had the opportunity to understand the great diversity of our district and to witness the incredible work that takes place every day, in our schools. I have had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the operational challenges, the needs, the goals and the priorities of the District. I am seeking re-election to continue that commitment and to build on the strengths of our district and dedication to the success for every student.
Where can the school board spend less? Where should the school board be investing more?
The question is not about spending less or more it is about managing resources efficiently and effectively to ensure we are providing and sustaining the programs and services needed to ensure the success of every child. It is also about ensuring there are resources available to provide for new programs and services that meet the needs of all students
Next time you’re walking in the woods and you come face-to-face with a Sasquatch, what do you do?
I think I would simply say “ Oh … Hello!” in a surprised way and wait for a response.
If the next school board does something film-worthy, who would play you in the film?
I would hope I would play myself.
