Prince George Cougars guaranteeing $15,000 for one lucky fan next month

Cats partnering with United Way of Northern BC for season’s final Mega 50/50 Jackpot

It’s back for one last time this season.

The Prince George Cougars’ final Mega 50/50 Jackpot of the 2018-19 calendar year will ensure the winner with a minimum prize of $15,000 on Saturday, March 9.

This is the second Mega Jackpot night as the Cats host this event twice in a season that not only sends someone home with a lot of cash, but also sends the other half of the 50/50 to a charity in the city.

United Way of Northern BC (UWNBC) has been chosen for this round, who will then distribute the money to 10 total organizations under their umbrella.

“This has a far-reaching impact through Prince George,” said UWNBC CEO Roberta Squire. “We support 38 organizations and this money will allow these charities to concentrate a bit more on what they do directly within the community.”

Those benefitting agencies include:

  • Intersect
  • Prince George Hospice
  • Crisis Line
  • YMCA of Northern BC
  • Canadian Mental Health Association
  • Prince George Brain Injury Group
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters Prince George
  • Carney Hill Neighbourhood
  • United Way Community Impact Fund

The Cougars are also rebating five dollars per ticket to UWNBC and its agencies on top of their share of the Mega Jackpot prize at the end of the game.

According to the team, the most money a fan has ever won on this particular night was more than $65,000, and they hope Prince George can pull out another big number.

“Along with countless community appearances and donations, through our 50/50 Society, the Cougars have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to local charities over the past three-and-a-half years,” said Cougars’ Vice-President of Business, Andy Beesley.

The game will be against the Portland Winterhawks at the CN Centre with a 7 p.m. puck-drop.

The first Mega 50/50 of the season almost reached $60,000 for Pink in the Rink Night on Nov. 3, 2018.
