You can now add Hockey Canada to this Prince George coach’s resume.
Steve O’Rourke, the associate coach of the Prince George Cougars, has been selected by the national governing body to help out one of Canada’s three teams slated to compete at the 2019 World Under-17 Challenge later this year.
The 44-year-old will act as an assistant bench boss under Head Coach Martin Laperrière for Team Canada Red at the annual international contest.
O’Rourke has been part of the Cougars since the start of the 2016-17 B.C. Division banner-winning season, primarily focusing on defencemen.

In February, he was the head coach of Team B.C. at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alberta.
The World Under-17 Hockey Challenge features three Canadian squads (red, white, and black) and five other countries, including the United States, Russia, Finland, Sweden, and the Czech Republic.
The tournament is taking place Nov. 2 to 9, 2019 in Medicine Hat, Alberta and Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
According to the schedule, O’Rourke and Team Canada Red will face the Russians on Day One of the week-long event.
In 2017, Prince George Cougars goaltender Taylor Gauthier was part of Team Canada White at the challenge in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John.
