A local author is releasing the next edition in her popular children's book series, which follows the adventures of an Airedale Terrier.
Prince George's Elizabeth Ferris debuted a book in the series Positively Georgia – a Motivational Tale of a Unique Airedale and became an Amazon Top 50 Best Seller when it was released late last year.
Ferris' second book is entitled Positively Georgia’s Guide to Surviving Grief and was released in early June, aiming to help teens and adults deal positively with the loss of a loved one by fostering needed conversations between youth and adults about grief.
In the book, Georgia rides around the city in her owner’s truck, experiencing the world with love and appreciation.
Her owner, who is a realtor, visits people selling a home or property after a loved one has died.
The story follows George as she helps console those struggling with grief while offering reassuring and inspiring lessons for children and adults.
“The loss of a loved one is a gut-wrenching experience. This book shows teens and adults effective ways to deal with loss to recover a happy, rewarding life,” says Ferris, in a news release.
“This book is also good for people with terrible anxiety and will help their mind slow down and focus on positivity.”
Ferris has said the idea to write about Georgia and her positive attitude actually came from her parents.
"This book is based on the lessons I learned from my Hungarian parents. They overcame unbelievable odds to escape communism in the 1950s and emigrate to Canada. Their unfailing bravery to pursue and achieve their dreams is the foundation for Georgia's wisdom and worldwide appeal," said Ferris.
Even though they arrived speaking no English, the couple married, found employment and built a home in Prince George. Ferris saw firsthand how her parent's strong belief in yourself and goals could make anything possible.
Positively Georgia is also based on the Ferris family's real-life Airedale dog.
