Prince George accessibility champions to be honoured

The Prince George Advisory Committee on Accessibility is seeking nominations for the Access Award of Merit.

The city’s Advisory Committee on Accessibility is looking to honour an individual, group or businesses that has made significant contributions to improving accessibility in Prince George.

The committee is seeking nominations for the Access Award of Merit. Nominees must be located within the City of Prince George and have made “an outstanding contribution to improving accessibility in one or more of the following areas: education, employment, recreation/entertainment, transportation, accessibility, housing/accommodation, commercial/retail, arts and culture,” according to a statement released by the City of Prince George on Tuesday.

The nominee must have improved accessibility with one or more of the following types of disabilities: mobility, agility, hearing, seeing, speaking, developmental, and/or mental illness, provide service for residents to a visitors to the city, and demonstrate a commitment to increase accessibility above the minimum requirements of the law.

To nominate a person, group or business, fill out the nomination form online.

Nominations are open until Feb. 20, and the award will be presented at the city’s Civic Appreciation event in the spring.
