Premier David Eby will visit Prince George on Friday.
His first order of business will be to participate in a round-table talk at the Prince George Civic and Conference Centre with Mayor Simon Yu and city council to discuss such issues as homelessness, encampments, crime and repeat offenders, and the toxic drug crisis.
Eby and Yu will then sign of memorandum of understanding which will outline the agreements reached by the provincial and municipal governments.
Then at 2 p.m., the premier will tour the Tidewater Midstream Prince George Refinery at 2542 Pulp Mill Rd., predeced at 1:30 p.m. by a news conference to announce the completion of Tidewater's renewable diesel plant.
The plant will utilize vegetable oil, used cooking oil and animal fats and will be capable of producing up to 3,000 barrels of diesel fuel annually. It would supply 150 million litres of renewable diesel, which is nearly 25 per cent of the province’s stated annual target of 650 million litres.
“It’s going to be Canada’s first standalone renewable diesel refinery,” said Aileen Machell, deputy chief of staff for the Office of the Premier.
“The plant will be fully operational soon and it will put Prince George on the map as a clean fuel leader.”
