A snowmobile accident at Powder King Ski Resort near Mackenzie has claimed the life of a 64-year-old Fort St. John man

At about 1:20 p.m. Feb. 22 Mackenzie RCMP attended at an area known as Old Friend where the man had been "high marking" with friends on 141 Hill. As the victim operator descended, he hit a rock, which air-launched his sled and separated it from the operator. Upon landing the operator hit another rock that resulted in internal injuries. Search and Rescue and B.C. Ambulance attended and the man - not yet identified - was transported by helicopter to the Mackenzie and District Hospital where he died from his injures. Police say alcohol was not a factor in the incident which is under investigation by the coroner and RCMP.
