Possibly more to Old Cariboo Highway case

The police did not immediately leave the scene of a gunshot fatality last week on Old Cariboo Highway.

In that incident a 21-year-old female died in what appeared to be a suicide. Police said at the time that all such incidents are treated as suspicious and given a full forensic investigation. As of Wednesday, no indications from police suggested the woman's death involved foul play.

At the scene of the gunshot was another person, a man, whose identity or relationship to the victim was not disclosed by police.

Those with knowledge of the incident told The Citizen that the RCMP investigation included holding the scene for several days and a male - unconfirmed if it was the same male - being taken into custody for a prolonged period of questioning.

Police spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass would only say, when questioned, that no male was in custody as of Wednesday and the home on Old Cariboo Highway was no longer being held for examination.

Police would be examining the file, he said, to determine if any more information was relevant to disclose today.
