Readers strongly support doctor-assisted suicide but mostly by committee, according to The Citizen online poll results for the question: "What kind of law should the federal government pass to deal with the issue of doctor-assisted suicide for the terminally ill?"
With a total of 45 per cent, 276 people voted to allow a committee of doctors to oversee each individual case with strict oversight.
Allowing doctors to opt in or out in compliance with their personal beliefs got 36 per cent of the vote for a total of 220. Forbid the doctors from any involvement got nine per cent, for a total of 56 votes. Pass no law and allow provincial medical associations to set their own rules got eight per cent with 49 votes and trailing with one per cent and seven votes was pass the problem onto the provinces because they will have to pay for it.
There was a total of 608 votes. Don't forget this is not a scientific poll.
