What started as a response to an erratic driver ended with the seizure by Prince George RCMP of an extensive number of firearms and a large amount of marijuana and magic mushrooms from a Beaverly-area home over the weekend.
It all began Saturday evening when police were called to a report of a driver forcing another vehicle off the road in the rural community just west of Prince George.
There, two young women, one age 23 and the other under 18, told police they had dropped off a male youth at a home so he could buy marijuana, Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said.
They said a vehicle left the home shortly after and began following them before cutting them off and forcing them to stop.
When the man got out of the vehicle, they were able to back out and drive away without further incident but they were worried the male youth was being held against his will and they called the RCMP.
And when police showed up, they came across an unexpected find - 25 pounds of marijuana, 6.6 pounds of hashish, 343 grams of magic mushrooms, 14 long guns - either shotguns or bolt action rifles - three hand guns, a crossbow, a flare gun, seven bulletproof vests and $12,000 cash.
At least half the firearms had been altered, several were loaded and unsecured and three of the weapons were confirmed to have been stolen, police said.
A 30-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were arrested and later released on a promise to appear in February while RCMP are recommending several drug, weapons and stolen property charges.
As for the male youth, as the investigation progressed, officers came to believe he had been trying to break into the home to steal marijuana and was arrested. As well, the two young women were arrested on a charge of public mischief for allegedly providing false information to police.
The arrestees' names were not released Monday.
