A 31-year-old Edmonton man is in custody after allegedly trying to flee police in a stolen pickup truck, Prince George RCMP said Wednesday.

It began at about 3:15 a.m. on Quince Street where a general duty member attempted to pull over a Ford F350, one of the most-commonly stolen vehicles in Prince George.

The driver took off and police did not pursue in the name of public safety.

But just before 4 a.m., the same truck was seen on Ospika Boulevard near Forest Avenue and, upon seeing police, the driver took off once again, driving at a high speed in the wrong lane against oncoming traffic and swerving towards fully-marked police vehicles, RCMP said.

It was seen several more times going through the city's core, RCMP said, before it was found about 40 minutes later abandoned in an alley between Victoria Street and Quince Street.

The suspect was arrested less than a block away and was expected to appear in court on Wednesday. He name was not provided because charges had not yet been approved.
