Police are asking for help in finding the person responsible for an early Tuesday morning attack.

On July 16, just after 2 a.m., the Prince George RCMP received a report of a break and enter and attempted sexual assault of an adult female in a home in the 1900 block of Upland Street.

Officers and a police service dog were unable to locate the suspect.

According to the initial investigation, the victim awoke to find a man in her bedroom with a knife. She was able to scream and fight off the attacker until he fled the residence. The woman was taken to the University Hospital of Northern B.C. with non-life threatening injuries.

The Prince George RCMP forensic identification section looked over the scene and through preliminary investigation, it is believed the suspect entered through an open window or unlocked door.

The suspect is described as a First Nations male, approximately 25 years old, standing 5'8". He had short hair, an athletic build and was wearing a short-sleeved white shirt and dark pants.

As the investigation continues, police are reminding the public to make sure all doors and windows are locked whenever possible, especially at night.
