Police have fingered a suspect in a recent theft but are still trying to hunt down the victims.

On the afternoon of Oct. 30, police received a report of a theft from a vehicle in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

Video surveillance captured a female entering an unlocked minivan and removing several white grocery bags from the middle and back seats.

"Unfortunately, the victims had left the parking lot before the Loss Prevention Officer could speak to them or get a licence plate of their vehicle," said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Craig Douglass.

No report about the theft was made and police are requesting the public's help in identifying the vehicle's owner.

The male driver is described as possibly being a senior, with a tall, thin build, wearing a dark-coloured puffy jacket. He was accompanied by a shorter female, described as likely being a senior.

The blue minivan is possibly a Ford, has a built-in roof rack and is equipped with a driver's side sliding door. It was parked in the second disabled stall near the grocery side entrance to Wal-Mart.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP at 250-561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES (274637) using keyword 'pgtips.'

In addition, the Prince George RCMP are reminding holiday shoppers to use extra caution, "protecting their new treasures from thieves set on being the Grinch," said Douglass.

Some safety tips include:

n If possible, park in well-lit areas and close to store entrances/exits

n Place all purchases in the trunk or out of sight

n Always lock the doors

n Have keys ready before getting back to the vehicle

n Ask a store employee or security for an escort back to your vehicle if you feel uncomfortable.
