Polar bear dip set for Ness Lake on New Year's Day

Once again, the brave and the bold will have a chance to kick off the new year in an exceptionally chilly way as the annual polar bear dip is set for January 1. Dippers are asked to show up at the Ness Lake Bible Camp by 2 p.m.

Once again, the brave and the bold will have a chance to kick off the new year in an exceptionally chilly way as the annual polar bear dip is set for January 1.

Dippers are asked to show up at the Ness Lake Bible Camp by 2 p.m. for registration at the welcome centre.

The camp is roughly an hour-long drive from Prince George. Head west along Chief Lake Road and then along Ness Lake Road from where Chief Lake Road turns north.

Costumes are optional but encouraged and there will be prizes for the best get-ups.

At 2:30 p.m., everyone meets in the dining hall for costume judging and safety when dipping and the fun will begin shortly afterwards.

The entry fee is $20 - but if you raised that much in pledges beforehand, the fee is waived - and the first 50 to sign up get a free T-shirt.

Pledge forms and general information is available at www.nlbc.bc.ca and donations over $10 are tax deductible.

Money raised from this event will go towards the summer team bursary which helps young adults afford to volunteer at camp for the summer. Last year's dip raised about $3,000.

Spectators are welcome and there will be hot chocolate and cinnamon buns for all.
