Patrons of the city's Save On Foods donated enough groceries to fill 22 police cars Sunday during a pre-Christmas fundraiser put on by the RCMP.
The total surpassed last year's total of 20. As well, donations of cash and gift cards topped $4,000, eclipsing last year's $3,600. All that was raised goes to the Prince George Council of Seniors.
Local police officers, volunteers, and RCMP detachment staff were out for six hours collecting donations.
"The people of Prince George have once again stepped up and made a huge contribution to seniors in need this holiday season" said event organizer Bev Livingstone, a city employee at the detachment. "We never imagined that we would surpass last year's donations, but we did."
Wood Wheaton GM provided a cube van for the effort.
