A house fire on Sunday afternoon in the 2500 block of Pine Street is estimated to have caused in excess of $200,000 in damage, according to Prince George Fire Rescue chief John Iverson.

Crews were called to the scene of the blaze around 4:20 p.m. on Sunday and found a single family home on fire.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire and Iverson said there was no one at the home at the time crews arrived.

The fire department deployed 17 personnel from three halls to quell the blaze, which took a few hours to extinguish.

RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass said fire investigations are often difficult and typically take some time to complete. Police and fire investigators remain on scene collecting evidence to try to determine the cause of the blaze.

"We were in there this morning and the fire sparked up again," he said, noting it was premature to reach any conclusions.
