This will be the last Christmas that Prince George Child Development Centre volunteers will be providing a gift wrapping service at Pine Centre Mall, but the CDC will come out ahead under a new scheme, according to the mall's marketing director Karen Cameron.
Cameron confirmed Tuesday that in the new year a new customer service centre will be constructed at the location with staff providing the gift-wrapping service year round.
"Most malls do gift-wrapping all year round at their customer service centre so we're just moving to that model," Cameron said.
As for the CDC, Cameron said the organization will get all the proceeds from gift wrapping provided in November and December - a full two months compared to the 18 days volunteers are providing this year.
As well, the CDC will receive one dollar for gift card box sold at the centre throughout the year.
"It doesn't mean less money for them, it will actually mean more," Cameron said.
CDC executive director Darrell Roze said the changes are fine as long as the group doesn't lose any money as a result. The CDC typically brings in $14,000 a year from the service, with 12 to 14 volunteers helping out depending on the demand.
Cameron said the change also means gift-wrapping will be available during other occasions throughout the year, such as Mother's Day, Father's Day and birthdays.
