Rolling Mix Concrete Arena showed its age on Thursday morning.

Prince George Fire Rescue firefighters were called shortly before 10 a.m. to a report of a smell of natural gas at the venue.

But no leak was found and it's suspected arena's aging heaters emitted an odour when they were started up.

According to a staff report submitted to city council in July, the cost of maintaining and operating the 61-year-old arena makes building a new one worth considering, despite the estimated $29-million price tag.
