The full public can now see the interior of Prince George's first mosque.

A reception, by invitation only, was held in October during the final phases of finishing construction. Muslim leaders said at the time there was limited seating that may not be able to accommodate all who wished to see the uniquely designed building, and they expected the full community invitation would be extended in November when all aspects of building were finished. That time has come.

"The Muslim community of Prince George extends an invitation to everyone to come and join us for the first public open house at the Prince George Islamic Centre," said one of the building's key organizers, Firas Mansour.

The event will be held between noon and 4 p.m. on Saturday at northern B.C.'s only Islamic church. The mosque is located at 4668 5th Avenue, at the Foothills Boulevard intersection.

Mansour said, "The event will include a brief presentation about Islam at 30 minutes past the hour, a question-and-answer session at the top of the hour, a tour of the building and light refreshments."

Anyone who attends is asked to please abide by a simple dress code: chest, arms and legs must be covered. Women must cover their heads inside the prayer area. Casual clothing is fine as long as there are no see-through fabrics or other exposure of the chest, arms or legs.
