Council wants to add to the growing number of events taking place in Prince George during its centenary.
On Monday night, councillors endorsed a report from Mayor Shari Green recommending the city apply to host the 2015 North Central Local Government Association conference and annual general meeting.
The NCLGA, representing 40 local governments from the region and the group was last hosted by Prince George in 2008.
"Hosting an NCLGA conference is an excellent opportunity to showcase Prince George and its amenities to the 300 conference delegates and their partners," said Green's report to council.
The budget for the event is set by both the NCGLA and the host community, with costs recovered through registration fees and sponsorship. Profits go to the government association and the city would not be compensated for the required staff time.
City manager Beth James said administration has the capacity to support the event if the bid is successful.
