Three Prince George buildings are finalists in the Northern B.C. Commercial Building Awards.

The public library's Skylab, a Wajax heavy equipment facility and the Williams Machinery building at 880 Great St. are among the 21 finalists. The awards recognize excellence in eight different categories, including office buildings, retail, mixed residential/commercial use buildings, apartments, community institutional buildings and industrial buildings. To be eligible, the building has to been constructed between January 2011 and December 2013.

The winners will be announced June 27 at the Ramada Hotel.

"We are excited about the number and diversity of the entries in this edition of the awards," said Mark MacDonald of Invest Northwest Publishing, which is co-ordinating the event. "The people and companies that put these buildings together are often behind the scenes, so this is all about celebrating them and their accomplishments, and acknowledging their efforts and commitment to their projects."

Other northern towns that have finalists include Dawson Creek, with six buildings, Fort St. John, with four buildings; and Prince Rupert, with two buildings.

The awards are one of several held across the province. The last edition of the awards was held in 2012.
