Citizen reporter Charelle Evelyn has captured a 2013 Jack Webster Foundation fellowship.
Established in 1986 to recognize and support excellence in B.C.-based journalism, the Jack Webster Foundation annually hands out thousands of dollars in funding for professional development.
This year, four recipients are sharing more than $14,000 to attend the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Fl. Evelyn will be taking part in a five-day workshop, Investigating Local Government on a Shoestring Budget, in September.
The other 2013 Jack Webster Foundation Fellows are Fairchild TV reporter Claudia Lau, reporter Elaine O'Connor from The Province newspaper and Vancouver Sun reporter Kelly Sinoski.
Evelyn is the third Citizen recipient of a Jack Webster Foundation fellowship in the last seven years, joining managing editor Neil Godbout, who was selected in 2006, and former Citizen reporter Gordon Hoekstra, who was chosen in 2011.
"We're so proud to see Charelle recognized by the Jack Webster Foundation," Godbout said. "I can speak from experience that her training at Poynter will immediately benefit the Citizen and also have a lasting impact on Charelle's journalism career."
