A fire crew from the Prince George Forest Region was dispatched Saturday to assist in fighting a forest fire burning out of control in the Yukon.
The B.C. Wildfire Management Branch sent in attack crews from Prince George and the Cariboo region to join a crew from the Northwest Fire Centre to try to put out the blaze near Carmacks, Yukon.
The involvement of the two B.C. crews was in response to a request made by the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre, which co-ordinates sharing of firefighting resources between B.C. and other provinces.
A travel advisory is in effect for Highway 4 east of Carmacks, a village of about 500 in south central Yukon, 180 kilometres north of Whitehorse.
There are two fires of note currently burning in the Prince George Forest Region in the northeast part of the province -- a 240 -hectare blaze near Tsea Lakes and a 1,000-hectare fire near Vents River.
