The Prince George Community Foundation's Citizen of the Year celebration is going plural.

Rather than bestowing the honour on just one person, as many as five individuals or couples will be named under a change to the format announced Tuesday.

Up until now, as many as five people or couples were nominated but in the end just one was awarded the designation.

The PGCF felt it was time to shift the focus away from being a competition and from now on it will be known as Citizens of the Year.

"We have so many deserving individuals and couples who give back to our community in very significant ways that it just makes sense to honour more than one person or couple in a given year," said the event's chair Teresa Saunders.

This year's honourees will be announced on Sept. 10 and the Citizens of the Year Gala will be held Oct. 16.

Tickets go on sale September 10 both online and at the front desk at the Coast Inn of the North.
